	Director
		Dr. Julia Davids is back for her fourth season as Music Director/Conductor of the Camerata Singers of Lake Forest. Originally from London, Ontario, she is a product of the Amabile Youth Singers, the Ontario Youth Choir and the National Youth Choir systems. In 1998, she was named the first Apprentice Conductor
	of the National Youth Choir.Julia graduated from the University of Western Ontario with B.Mus.(Hons.Ed.) and B.Ed. degrees and has gone on to receive two Masters degrees from the University of Michigan in Voice Performance and Conducting. She recently received her Doctor of Music degree (in Conducting) from Northwestern University in Evanston. As a soprano soloist, Julia is an avid performer and recitalist, having appeared with the Opera Atelier, the Vancouver Cantata Singers, the Toronto Chamber Choir, the Toronto Consort,and the Guelph Chamber Choir. Recent engagements include a performance at the Chicago Cultural Center with the Forces of Virtue, a program of Bach at the Greenlake Music Festival, and Handel's Dixit Dominus with the Peninsula Music Festival. Julia enjoys teaching privately and has given workshops on vocal pedagogy with many groups, including the Royal Canadian Guild of Organists. Julia developed the thriving vocal and choral programme at Appleby College in Oakville, teaching all vocal classes, directing the
	Chapel Choir and founding the touring ensemble, Cantus. She was the guest conductor for the Nova Scotia Choral Federation Youth Choir camp in August of 2003. While in Chicago, Julia has conducted the Northwestern University Women's Chorus and is Director of Music at Trinity United Methodist Church. Julia is currently Artistic Director of the Canadian Chamber Choir. She recently joined Loyola University in Chicago as a voice instructor. She is living in Skokie with her husband, Martin Davids, a Baroque violinist and Director of the Callipygian Players. Julia and Marty had their first child, Judith Lynn, in March 2007.

	Jo Ann and Bill Avellone have been enthusiastic supporters of Camerata since their first concert nine years ago. Jo Ann is a vice president on the board of Camerata. Jo Ann has also directed plays and led children's drama programs at Gorton, Lake Bluff and Grace Methodist Church of Lake Bluff where she enjoys singing in the
	church choir. Bill is a management consultant and works with distressed companies, traveling worldwide. He enjoys music of all kinds. Twenty years ago he was a founding board member of The Chicago Sinfonietta Orchestra currently with 1600 season ticket holders. Jo Ann and Bill have three children, Monica, who is working in New York, James, who is working in Chicago, and Mary, who is studying in Italy her fall semester and is attending the Univ. of Arizona in Tucson.

			Hank and Susan Cartland Bode have been strong supporters of Camerata for a number of years. Susan is one of the co-founders of Camerata, serving as its first Executive Director and as a singer for 7 years. Susan was elected the first Life Board Member of Camerata. Hank and Susan sponsored the April 2005 concert in honor of Camerata's 25th anniversary. Susan currently serves on the
	Advisory Boards of the Symphony of Oak Park and River Forest and the Heritage Chorale. She is also the Founder/Director of the Joyful Singers, a 12-woman choral ensemble. They are both active in the First United Church of Oak Park and sing in the choir there. They have a “blended” family of 5 children and 10 grandchildren.

	Roger and Michele Burgis have proudly sponsored Camerata concerts in each of the past three years. They have a life long love of music and a tradition of supporting the arts. Roger is a Senior Vice President -Investments with Smith Barney having spent 30 years as an investment professional. Roger is a board member with Ars Viva and active in the Lake Forest
	Presbyterian Church, serving in the choir, as well as being an elder and a member of the finance committee. Michele serves on the board of the Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Art Assoc. of the Art Institute of Chicago and Co-chair of the Barat Alumni Assoc. They have two teenage boys.

			Ludmilla Coven has been a Camerata concert goer for more than ten years and was very much moved by the kind gesture of John Washburn who sponsored a concert honoring Ludmilla's late husband, Harry Coven. Ludmilla brought 43 guests to the concert and asked to be a concert sponsor for the 2005/2006 season. She sponsorer the November 2005 concert, "Due North", which highlighted Canadian music and Canadian composers.

	Dick and Marilyn Holmes have been actively involved with Camerata for more than 20 years. Marilyn has just returned as Executive Vice President of the Board of Directors of Camerata and Dick is serving as President after many years serving as Vice President-Treasurer. Dick is also a singer in the tenor section. Marilyn is a life
	Board Member of Camerata. The couple chose to sponsor the June 2008 concert as a special tribute to Michelle Bailey, another Camerata Singer, who lost her long struggle with cancer in July 2007. Marilyn and Dick have three grown sons. All of whom are currently living in California and Colorado.

			Mike and Judi Looby are the sponsors for the June 2007 concert. Mike�s company, Diversified Graphics, has been the provider of our Camerata program brochure for the past twenty years and has also been a consistent advertiser in the brochure. Mike is sponsoring the concert in honor of his twentieth anniversary of doing business with Camerata and also as a tribute to Mike�s father, John A. Looby, Jr., who was a regular Camerata concert-
	goer for more than 10 years, and was attending concerts even after attaining the age of 90. John provided his home on Ahwahnee Lane, Lake Forest for a Camerata concert in fall of 1996.

	Stacey Magnusson is the widow of Paul Magnusson who was an integral part of the Camerata Singers for 25 years. An outstanding tenor, Paul appeared in 91 Camerata concerts during that period and was often a featured soloist. Stacey first met Paul while she was a student and he was a teacher at Maine West High School. Later, as an adult, she met him, fell in love and they were married. Stacey is director of choral activities at Algonquin Middle School in Des Plaines. She is past-President and
	past Lt. Governor for Optimists International in the State of Illinois. She teaches piano in her home studio and still has found time to have a successful career as a Mary Kay cosmetics salesperson. Stacey decided to sponsor the June 2006 concert as a tribute to Paul to recognize and celebrate their years of happiness and enjoyment together.

			John Washburn dedicated the June 2005 concert as a tribute to Harry Coven, long-time friend, former law partner and lifelong music lover, who passed away last December. Harry and his wife, Ludmilla, have been supporters of Camerata for many years. John has been a singer with Camerata in the bass section since 1988. John joined the Board of Directors in
	1990 and served as President of the Board from 2000 to 2004. He works in Chicago as a partner in the law firm of Gould & Ratner.

About Camerata

The Camerata Singers of Lake Forest, a 16-voice chamber choir, performs a repertoire spanning centuries and encompassing Classical to Broadway and beyond. The innovative programs, designed by Music Director/ Conductor Julia Davids, feature choral works, chamber works and solos. Each season it presents a series of four Sunday afternoon concerts in the Lake Forest area. Concerts are given in some of the most remarkable homes in the area.

Since its inception in 1980, the organization has been interested in combining fine choral music with the splendid homes the Lake Forest area. This presentation style is reminiscent of concerts performed in Europe in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries where singers and guests could mingle in an intimate and meaningful way. Over the years, Camerata has performed in more than 35 magnificent residences in the Lake Forest/Lake Bluff area. Our audiences enjoy listening to beautiful music in homes designed by such master architects as Frank Lloyd Wright, David Adler, Howard Van Doren Shaw, Benjamin Marshall, Harrie Thomas Lindeberg, and Arthur Heun, and the companies of Holabird and Root, amd Delano and Aldrich.

After each concert the audience is treated to an elegant reception of appetizers, wine and desserts. Concerts requiring an organ are usually given in the sanctuary of a local church.

Camerata has performed in the past with other musical organizations such as the Lake Forest Symphony and the Westminster Chamber Orchestra.

	Singers
	During our 27-year existence, more than 100 singers have performed with the Camerata Singers of Lake Forest. As you'll see below, however, there are many mainstays who have performed with the group over much of that history. This page provides very brief bios on the current singers - [name/section/year joined Camerata].
	Jane Applequist (Alto/1998) – Jane is the Director of Music and organist at Northwest Covenant Church in Mt. Prospect. She taught public school elementary music for several years and has taught piano privately for many years.
		Lorraine Branham (Alto/1987) – Lorraine has a B.S. degree from Brigham Young University and M.M. in vocal performance from Indiana University. She has been very active in opera and theatrical productions. She teaches voice and piano in Libertyville.
	Frank Cargle (Bass/2007) – Originally from Detroit, Frank has been a soloist for most of his life, starting at age 12. He studied voice with composer/director Brazeal Dennard. He studied with Lee Snook at Michigan State and received a B. A. in economics from Wayne State Univ. He currently sings with the Chicago Bar Association Chorus, Con Spirito, and the Northwestern University Chorus. Frank works as Global Director of Procurement for Sidney Austin, LLP.
		Katarzyna Dorula (Soprano/2003) – Kasia is a native of Poland and a permanent resident of the U.S. She has a M.A. degree in conducting from the Academy of Music in Krakow. She has been with the Lira Ensemble (a professional group specializing in Polish music, song and dance) for 13 years and with the Chicago Symphony Chorus for 6 seasons. In addtion to singing, Kasia teaches piano and conducts a children's choir.
	Marcia Ecker (Alto/1995) – Marcia graduated with a degree in Music Education from North Park and continued her studies in vocal performance at American conservatory of Music. She has performed with the Chicago Symphony Chorus, Music of the Baroque. She taught music at elementary, junior high and high school levels and also has maintained a private voice studio.
		Jim Enstrom (Bass/1981) – Jim has been the baritone soloist and cantor at St. Mary's Church in Lake Forest for many years and has appeared as guest soloist with the Lake Forest College choir, the Lake Forest Symphony and the North Suburban Symphony. He studied with Nancy Sylvester and Wayland Rogers.
	Chris Finch (Tenor/2006) – Chris received a BA degree from Augustana College (Rock Island) an MM degree in Music Education from Northwestern Univ. and an MA degree in Education Administration from Roosevelt Univ. He is currently the Principal of Sarah Adams Elementary School in Lake Zurich. He was seen most recently in CenterStage Lake Forest's production of "Suessical" as the Cat in the Hat.
		Anne Graczyk-Druce (Alto/2006) – Anne received a bachelor's degree in music from Boston University and a Graduate Professional Diploma from the Hartt School in Hartford, CT. She has been very active in opera and is currently a Young Artist in the Chicago Opera Theatre. She performed extensively in the New England area before marrying and relocating to the Chicago area.
	Idona Griffith (Soprano/2004) – Idona has a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Music Education from the University of Texas in Austin, and has done graduate work at UT Austin and at VanderCook College of Music in Chicago. She is a teachier of music in the public schools, and has experience at every level -- K-12. She enjoys performing in local musical theatre productions.
		Daniel Heiman (Tenor/1993) – Daniel earned his B.A. from St. Olaf College and then served for three years in the Peace Corps. He went on to get a Ph.D. in organic chemistry from the University of Illinois and works as Manager for Chemistry Research. Daniel plays the euphonium, the recorder and the lute and serves as Webmaster of the Lute Society of America.
	Elizabeth Herr (Soprano/2003) – Liz received her Bachelor of Music Education from Illinois Wesleyan University and currently teaches general music and choir at Algonquin Middle School in Des Plaines, IL. She is also the Director of the Cherub Choir at a local church. Liz has had an extensive performing career including an extended stint on a cruise ship. She is a member of the Northwestern University Chorus.
		Caren Hiatt (Soprano/1991) – Caren received a B.M. from Miami University (Ohio) and a M.M. in voice performance from Western Michigan University. She has performed with the Columbus (Ohio) Symphony Chorus, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Light Opera Works and Bach Week in Evanston, and is a soloist for area churches and synagogues.
	Dick Holmes (Tenor/1985) – Dick graduated from Grinnell College (Iowa), majoring in mathematics and physics and received an M.S. in nuclear physics from M.I.T. and an M.B.A. from Stanford University. Dick is now retired from business, but serves as President of the Camerata Board of Directors.
		Ed Kramer (Tenor/1990) – Ed graduated from Luther College (Iowa) and served as a bassoonist with the Fifth Army Band at Fort Sheridan. He worked as a school band director and is the founder and director of the Liberty-Fremont Chamber Singers. Ed is the Director of Music at Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Lake.
	Judy Marth (Soprano/2007) – Judy studied voice at The American Conservatory of Music and Sherwood Conservatory with Wilma Osheim and, currently, with Susan Charles at The Music Institute of Chicago. Since 1987, she has been a member of The Lira Ensemble. She was a member of Cantores in Ecclesia Professional Quartet at Divine Word International. Judy has been the Asst. Director and Vocal Coach of the LaSalle Bank Employee Chorale since its inception in 1999.
		Sherrie Olson (Soprano/2004)– Sherrie received a B.A. of Music in Vocal Performance and Education from Miami University in Oxford, OH; and an M.B.A. in Finance and Marketing from the Ohio State University. Sherrie teaches private piano and voice lessons and has appeared in local stage productions.
	Cristina Pechianu (Soprano/2007) – Cristina is a native of Romania and currently lives in Highland Park. She holds a degree in nursing and practices as a maternity nurse. She studied voice at Trinity University. Cristina is a soloist for area churches and a member of The Romanian Madrigal Consort.
		Gregg Rodriguez (Bass/1996) – Gregg attended Camerata concerts for a number of years before he decided to take voice lessons and become a singer with the group. Now, in addition to be a very active singer in the North Shore area, he also enjoys playing the violin which he began studying at age 5.
	Tom Tropp (Bass/2003) – Tom is a music educator and recording technician, and is currently President of SoundByte Studios, a music services firm specializing in CD production for choral ensembles. Tom holds the Bachelor of Music Education degree from Illinois Wesleyan University, and a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from the University of Arizona. He is currently the Director of the Adult Choir at the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest and is working as a music director in the Leyden High School District 212.
		John Washburn (Bass/1988) – John is an attorney with the Chicago law firm of Gould & Ratner. He has sung with the Apollo Chorus of Chicago and performed with the Bowen Park Opera. John currently studies with Susan Charles of the Music Institute of Chicago. John is a former President of the Camerata Board and currently serves the Board as Vice President. John graduated from Stanford University and received his law degree from the University of Chicago.
	Elizabeth Weismehl (Soprano/2007) – Elizabeth holds Bachelor�s degrees in Vocal Performance and in Music Education from the Univ. of Illinois and a Master�s degree in Vocal Performance from Roosevelt Univ., where she studied voice with Maria Lagios and conducting with Dr. Anne Heider. Elizabeth has studied conducting with Jean Ashworth Bartle, director of the Toronto Children's Chorus. She is Director of Children's Choirs at First Presbyterian Church in Lake Forest and teaches general music at Ravinia Elementary in Highland Park.
